Year 2

About Us

A warm welcome to our Year 2 page!

We have lots of new and exciting things to learn in Year 2 this year.
We hope it will be a happy and fun time for everyone!

We are a strong team in Year 2 with a wealth of knowledge and skills to support and enhance young learners and we all work closely together to meet the needs of every single child in Year 2.

Teacher: Mrs Emma Firth

Cover Supervisor: Mrs Zara McIntyre

About our class

We are always very friendly and polite and we like to make visitors and new children feel welcome. We are excellent role models to the Reception and Year 1 children. We work hard and listen to our teachers. We support and encourage our friends so we can all do our best work. We are not afraid to try new things. We all know we are good at some things and have to try harder with others.

P.E is on a Monday and Friday afternoon. Please can you ensure that children have kit for both indoor (shorts and t-shirts and pumps) and outdoor PE (Warm tracksuit) as we do as much P.E as we can outside (weather permitting).

Homework / Helping at home

Homework will reinforce what has been happening throughout the week and we would encourage your child to always try their best.

Spellings will be sent home every Monday. These will be taught, practised and reinforced throughout the week. The learning of spellings will be assessed the following Monday.

A Maths task will be sent home every Monday that will focus on learning of facts, number bonds, etc.

Reading Books will be sent home weekly. We would encourage your child to read or be read to daily to help promote the love of reading.

The Year 2 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Year 1 and they will continue to learn through exciting topics.

These are:

·         Amazing Africa!

·         Let’s Celebrate

·         Fire, Fire!

·         Great Women who…

·         Busy Bees

·         Hunt for Gold!

We will teach topics creatively so that most subjects and concepts will link to the topic and so that children remain motivated, enthused and eager learners. The children will become independent readers and writers as the year advances.
