Year 3

Welcome to Squirrel Class

The staff in Year Three are committed to children’s smooth transition into Key Stage Two. We try our very best to ensure that our curriculum is engaging and stimulating and encourage children to share their ideas and experiences with us for this to be woven into lessons. We encourage independence in learning, in managing homework and in looking after their own belongings.

Our Curriculum

The Year 3 curriculum builds on and extends what the children have learnt in Key Stage 1. While the learning environment is a little more formal in Year 3, we continue to explore our topics creatively in a cross-curricular manner.

The topics include:

Autumn 1 - Food Glorious Food

Autumn 2 - Anglo Saxons

Spring 1 - Extreme Earth

Spring 2 - Stone Age

Summer 1 - Natural World

Summer 2 - Railways

P.E is on a Monday and Thursday. Please can you ensure that children have kit for both indoor (shorts, t-shirts and pumps) and outdoor PE (Warm tracksuit) as we do as much P.E as we can outside (weather permitting).

Homework / Helping at home

Homework will reinforce what has been happening throughout the week and we would encourage your child to always try their best.

Spellings will be uploaded to Class Dojo every Monday. These will be taught, practised and reinforced throughout the week. The learning of spellings will be assessed the following Monday.

A Maths task will also be uploaded to Class Dojo every Monday.

We will provide a reading book which is the appropriate level for your child and would encourage your child to read daily at home.
