Mathematics Subject Leader: Mrs Jeanette Dearnley

In Maths we have introduced the Mathematics Mastery Approach, an engaging and accessible style of mathematics teaching, inspired by Singapore and Shanghai. Our approach enhances mathematical understanding, enjoyment and achievement for every child. Children are encouraged to physically represent mathematical concepts. Objects and pictures are used to demonstrate and visualise abstract ideas, alongside numbers and symbols. Mathematical concepts are explored in a variety of representations and problem-solving contexts to give pupils a richer and deeper learning experience. We follow the White Rose Hub Schemes of Work in Year 1-4. In Year 5 we are working closely with the Middle schools and feeder schools to ensure that when pupils move to Year 6, they have all experienced exactly the same Mathematics Mastery approach and scheme of work.
