Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Teacher: Miss Kelly Marsden

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Marie Fisher, Mrs Libby Justice (am) and Mrs Marla Cousin (pm)

Mrs Marie Fisher and Mrs Zara Mcintyre will cover PPA on Friday afternoon.

Our classroom has a calm and friendly atmosphere where all the children feel comfortable to be themselves, work hard and try their best. We believe in a growth mindset, so we can learn without the fear of making mistakes.

We are a team in Year 5!  Children enjoy learning in an environment that is a safe, fun and happy place.  The adults in our class have an array of complementary skills which facilitate the delivery of an engaging curriculum. We believe that each child should be provided with opportunities to reach their full potential and we actively encourage the children to develop and celebrate their individual gifts and talents. We want our children to become confident, independent learners who have the social and academic skills necessary for lifelong learning.

During Year 5, we cover a wide range of topics including: Feel the Force, Go Europe! Out of this World, The Vikings, Life on Earth and Moving On. The topics have planned cross-curricular learning activities; making them exciting, relevant and meaningful. We also use the children’s own interests and hobbies as a vehicle for learning so the topics may vary slightly! Themed days and school trips are organised to enhance children’s learning experiences.

Our P.E. lessons take place on a Monday and a Wednesday. PE kit – please send both indoor and outdoor kits in a drawstring bag.

Homework / Helping at home

Reading - Ideally every day for at least 10 minutes; some independent some aloud to an adult. Reading books will be issued on Fridays and collected the following Friday. (This will be reviewed as part of the school’s Covid-19 Risk Assessment).

• Spellings will be sent home on Mondays and there will be a spelling test the following week.

• Maths – Please continue to support your child in memorising the multiplication tables.

• There will be creative projects set every other half term.
