Year 5

The adults in our class possess a wide range of complementary skills which help to deliver an engaging curriculum. Mr Sykes likes a classroom which has a calm and friendly atmosphere where all children feel comfortable to be themselves, work hard and learn without the fear of making mistakes. Mr Sykes is particularly interested in teaching maths and history; he also enjoys teaching PE and has a particular interest in sport, especially football, cricket and golf. In his spare time he still plays sport and supports Huddersfield Town FC.

In addition to Mr Sykes, Mrs Boothroyd will teach the class on a Thursday. During this time she will work with the children to develop their mental maths, spelling and grammar knowledge and creative writing skills. She will also teach PE.

Mrs Fisher supports the Year 5 Computing curriculum. She teaches computing throughout school and will work in Year 5 on a Friday afternoon. The computing program is highly engaging and also supports the development of maths, English and science skills.

We have Mrs Watkins in our class. She will support the day to day running of the class and lead on interventions. Mrs Justice and Mrs McIntyre will also support and lead interventions in and outside of the classroom in line with needs of all pupils.

About our class:

We want our classroom to be a safe, fun and happy place where our children enjoy learning. We believe that each child should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential and actively encourage the children to develop and celebrate their individual gifts and talents. We also want our children to grow in confidence and become more independent, socially and academically. The Year 5 Pupil of the Week and special mentions assembly promote good behaviour and academic achievement.
