Year 5

Welcome to Otter Class

Our classroom has a calm and friendly atmosphere where all the children feel comfortable to be themselves, work hard and try their best. We believe in a growth mindset, so we can learn without the fear of making mistakes.

Our Curriculum

During Year 5, we cover a wide range of topics. The topics have planned cross-curricular learning activities; making them exciting, relevant and meaningful. We also use the children’s own interests and hobbies as a vehicle for learning so the topics may vary slightly! Themed days and school trips are organised to enhance children’s learning experiences.

Our topics for this year are:

Autumn 1 - North American Road Trip

Autumn 2 - Ancient Greece

Spring 1 - Out of this World

Spring 2 - The Vikings

Summer 1 - The Rainforest

Summer 2 - Down t' Pit

P.E is on a Monday and Thursday with swimming on a Friday. Please can you ensure that children have kit for both indoor (shorts, t-shirts and pumps) and outdoor PE (Warm tracksuit) as we do as much P.E as we can outside (weather permitting).

Homework / Helping at home

Homework will reinforce what has been happening throughout the week and we would encourage your child to always try their best.

Spellings will be uploaded to Class Dojo every Monday. These will be taught, practised and reinforced throughout the week. The learning of spellings will be assessed the following Monday.

A Maths task will also be uploaded to Class Dojo every Monday.

We will provide a reading book which is the appropriate level for your child and would encourage your child to read daily at home.
